Digital Orchard & Kodak Film Lab London Unveil Groundbreaking 65mm Scanning Upgrade

At Digital Orchard, we are excited to announce a major leap forward in large-format filmmaking: a ground-breaking scanning upgrade, developed in collaboration with Kodak Film Lab London, that enhances capabilities across all 65mm formats, including 5-perf, 8-perf, and 15-perf IMAX. This investment sets a new benchmark for precision and image quality, enabling filmmakers to achieve unparalleled results and take their storytelling to the next level.

Since launching our Orchard Film department last year, we’ve been committed to expanding our offerings, from Super 8 stock, processing, and scanning services to a wide range of 16mm, 35mm, and 65mm film formats. The newly upgraded 65mm IMAX scanning technology is a game-changer, providing filmmakers with the creative flexibility to craft breathtaking visuals on an even grander scale.

Callum Just, CEO & Founder of Digital Orchard, shared his enthusiasm: 'This scanning upgrade represents a huge leap forward for us at Digital Orchard. It’s part of our ongoing mission to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of film. We’re excited to see how filmmakers will take advantage of the enhanced IMAX capabilities and set new standards in cinematic storytelling'.

This upgrade is a response to the resurgence of analogue film, following the success of Oscar-winning productions shot on Kodak’s legendary film stock, including The Brutalist, Anora, I'm Still Here, and I'm Not a Robot. The new scanning technology also complements Kodak Film Lab London’s significant lab upgrades, including the installation of Photomec's latest operating system, ensuring the highest quality and process control in every project.

Antonio Rasura, Director of Motion Picture Services at Kodak, said: 'It’s been incredible to witness the surge in analogue film’s popularity, and we’re thrilled to continue working with Digital Orchard to amplify this growth. Their new cutting-edge scanning technology, coupled with our own state-of-the-art processing upgrade, ensures filmmakers can achieve the very best in cinematic visuals'

Having surpassed 10 million feet of film scanned at our facility based at Kodak in Pinewood Studios, Digital Orchard remains a trusted partner for filmmakers, providing expert scanning support and delivering top-tier visuals on every project. We invite filmmakers to explore the newly available enhanced 65mm services or schedule a visit to see the upgraded installation in action

This upgrade is more than just a technological advancement - it marks the next phase in the evolution of film and reaffirms our commitment to supporting filmmakers with the best tools available
